February was a significant month across the industry, marked by the sign off of FICA’s revised strategic plan, budget 2026 and a full events schedule for 2026.
We have made major progress in vocational training consultation, strengthened collaboration with forest owners, and an increasing focus on health and safety leadership. Our engagement with FOA, FISC, Worksafe, and regional councils is deepening as we ensure contractors’ voices are strongly represented.
The pan-sector H&S Charter discussion continues to gain momentum, and we appreciate the opportunity to present to the FOA Board this month.
Vocational Training workshops in Whangārei, Rotorua and Gisborne were well attended, with the South Island sessions scheduled later this month.
Tairāwhiti remains a key focus, with increasing urgency around work programmes, and the need for alignment between GDC and forest owners. FICA continues to actively facilitate dialogue, challenge inaccurate public narratives, and support the contractor workforce whose role remains critical during transition discussions.
For me one of the most satisfying parts of the role is assisting members who call and I’m able to either point them in the right direction or provide information.
Thank you to all members who continue to engage openly with us about challenges on the ground.
